There is a way to make the light switch shiny and clean. Here’s how to make it look like new.
During our day, we often find ourselves having to turn on and off the lights of our home without realizing that our hands are not completely clean and therefore we are creating a problem with this gadget.
In fact, over time, germs and bacteria settle on the switch and stains form due to fat residues, fingerprints and whatever else you can create.
How to clean light switches
To prevent bacteria from proliferating and that our switch works perfectly without accumulating dust or anything else that could damage it and compromise its functioning, there are some foolproof methods.
These are based on the famous advice of grandmothers and most of the time, using simple ingredients that can be easily found at home, they are more effective than cleaning products on the market.
The first method involves cleaning the switches with a potato. It may sound strange, but this tuber is very effective in making our switches tidy and clean as if they were new.
This is made possible by the presence of potato starch, which tends to remove traces of grease that may have been released from cracked hands or snack scraps.
How to clean light switches
To use it, simply cut in half and rub it directly on the switches, while for the most insidious parts you can use a little cotton wool soaked in potato juice and pass it over the switch.
Another method is to use cleansing milk or baking soda, mixing it with water to form a paste to apply to the switches to make them white and shiny.
White vinegar can also be a great ally to remove dirt and grease from our switches, as well as eliminate any bacteria and germs that have nested in them.
Other methods
Alternatively, we can also use alcohol, which will tend to have the same action as the previous ingredients, although we must be careful not to overdo it in order to avoid electrical problems.
Detergents, whether purchased in a home store or handmade, also tend to remove dirt from the light switches in our homes.
It is generally recommended to remove the plastic part of the switches and immerse them in a three-liter tank of water, then add three tablespoons of detergent powder or liquid, leaving them in the soak for 24 hours.
Then rinse them and let them dry so you can place them on our wall. This method is recommended if after painting the walls there are paint residues that clog the switches.
How to clean light switches
You can also create a detergent with disinfectant action and spray it on our light switches by mixing in a bowl 250 ml of vinegar with the same amount of alcohol at 70° and the same amount of hydrogen peroxide.
To these ingredients you must add 6 drops of essential oil of your choice, although it is advisable to use tea tree oil as it is known for its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.
In addition, this substance tends to have a strong action against fungi. Essential oils of lemon and lavender are also recommended, both effective at removing dirt and defeating bacteria.
This operation, in the way we prefer, should generally be performed at least once a week, so as to eliminate all the dirt that can form and the bacteria and germs that can nest in our switches.
